REMEMBER & GIVE THANKS……

~ A Memorial Day Tribute ~

Did you know:

~We celebrate Memorial Day as a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. In contrast, Veterans Day honors all who have served. Approximately 1.1 million Americans have died in all the nation's wars.

~This year marks the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Medal of Honor, which President Abraham Lincoln signed into law in 1861. It is our nation's highest award for military valor.

~The U.S. flag only flies at half-staff for half the day on Memorial Day? On that day, the flag is raised to the top of the staff at dawn and then solemnly lowered to the half-staff position, where it remains until noon. It’s then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day.

Why? The half-staff position remembers more than 1 million men and women who gave their lives in service to their country. At noon, their memory is raised by the living, who promise not to let their sacrifice be in vain, but to instead rise up in their place to continue the fight for liberty and justice for all.

The National Moment of Remembrance encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for one minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to the nation.

These are some great videos you can share with your friends and loved ones to help us all remember to give our thanks this long weekend for these men, wemon and their families who gave up so much for Our Freedom.

From all of us here at Connie Rice & Partners, THANK YOU.

~The History of Memorial Day~

Wishing you all a safe and solemn Memorial Day.

Moonlight movies is every Wednesday in May. The movies start at about 8 p.m. (Credit: Mykal McEldowney)

Moonlight Movies, the city’s outdoor classic movie series, returns to the Peace Center Amphitheatre May 4 with a showing of the 1991 comedy “Father of the Bride.” The series runs through the month of May, with a different classic movie shown each Wednesday evening.

This year’s offerings also include “Batman”—the 1966 version with Adam West as the Caped Crusader—and the Western “Winchester,” with Jimmy Stewart and Stephen McNally. In addition, fans can vote for the classic movie to be shown on the final evening of the series (click here to vote). Choices include “Babe,” “The Country Girl” and “The Rookie.”

Lawn chairs, blankets and picnics are welcome at the events, but pets and tobacco are not. Anyone consuming alcohol will need to purchase a $1 wristband. Movies begin at sundown (roughly 8 p.m.) each Wednesday, but get there early to secure a good spot.

Good news throughout South Carolina– unemployment figures dropped below 10% in March, well below the all-time high of 11.8% set in 2009. In February, our state showed the largest month-to-month increase in the nation, says the Bureau of Labor Statistics. And, unemployment claims have steadily declined since January 2011, making it appear that the jobs crisis is coming to an end.
